WENGER WILL STAY

Arsene Wenger unraveled his future during a recent interview as the Frenchman stated that he will continue with Arsenal beyond the end of the current season no matter what happens in the remaining matches of the campaign.

When asked about his future with the Premier League club, Wenger responded: “Look, I have said that many times already, I have given my word to this club and that I want to continue where I am and that means to stay.”

The summer transfer window is a chance for clubs to improve their squads with new arrivals and this is something that is especially certain for Arsenal as they are in need of battling against the best that Europe has to offer and getting into the Champions League.

Arsenal is keeping close tabs on Mirko Vucinic of Juventus. The 30 years old player has not played an important role for the Italian side and could be looking on his way out of Italy if the price is right.

Julian Draxler of Schalke 04 is another player that Arsenal is working to lure in into the Premier League. During the January transfer window, Wenger tried to make a move for the German midfielder but failed on signing and they will continue their attempts on signing the young and promising player.

It will be difficult for Arsenal to secure the services of Draxler as his agent has already announced to the media that he will remain being a player of Schalke 04 at least until the end of the next season.

“Why should a player leave the club if the club has just built a top team? I also think it’s good if players stick to what they have signed. It would take an awful lot to happen for one of the two Draxler to leave. And even then I’m not sure it would be possible’’.Wittman said.

PATO QUITS CORINTHIANS

Former AC Milan striker Alexandre Pato has decided to quit Corinthians, the club he joined only recently from the Italian giants. Pato has decided to take this drastic action after violent attacks were carried out by fans at the training ground.

The 24-year-old striker had to take refuge in the dressing room along with several of his teammates in order to avoid harm. Corinthians’ fans have become increasingly impatient with Pato and a few other players, who they think have been the reason for the club decline in recent years.

Since winning the Club World Cup in 2012, Corinthians have not reached the same level again. They have gone through several managers, while also recently bringing in former Brazilian national team manager Mano Menezes.

Pato’s desire to move away from Corinthians is believed to be solely caused by the reaction of the fans, and was widely tipped. He has moved to São Paulo on a loan deal till the end of the season, while the former club of Neymar will receive Jadson in exchange. Jadson’s move to São Paulo, though, is on a permanent basis.

Corinthians will continue to pay half of Pato’s wages and it is still unclear whether the deal would be made permanent or not. The 24-year-old has been recently linked with a return to European football with the likes of Tottenham showing interest in him. “The clubs, Corinthians and Sao Paulo, have signed the contract and it just remains for the players to sign,” said a statement on the Corinthians site.

The Brazilian international was once regarded as a replacement for Ronaldo at international level, but a spate of injuries have prevented him from reaching this level. He still has several years left in him to once again rediscover the form that made him one of the most sought-after youngsters in the world.

NO NEW SIGNINGS

The Arsenal boss, Arsene Wenger, has denied the possibility of any new signings at the Emirates Stadium in the remaining days of the mid season transfer window.

The transfer window is going to be closed in about a week’s time and due to the fact that quite a few of the Arsenal players have suffered injuries in the recent past, there were speculations that a new face might arrive at the club in near future, but, that doesn’t seem to be the case.

In the ongoing season, Arsenal has the chance to win a couple of prestigious tournaments including the Premier League, but, for that, they need to have good players available as backups. So, there is no doubt that a signing is the demand of the hour for them, but, it’s not easy to finalize a deal in 7 or 8 days. A manager as experienced as Arsene Wenger would certainly not want to make a wrong decision in a hurry.

The one player who was reported to be on Wenger’s radar last week was Julian Draxler, but, after the statements that the Gunners boss made in his yesterday’s interview, it doesn’t seem that the German midfielder would be making his way to England.

When asked about new signings, Wenger said, “It’s not likely to happen. Just about a week left now and honestly speaking, we don’t have any deal which is close to get finalized.”

“Our squad is still pretty good I reckon and the great news for us is that some of our guys are coming back from injuries.”

“A new signing doesn’t necessarily make the squad strong.”
Arsenal’s next match is a comparatively easier one against Coventry City, but, that’s an important match for them. They would be playing that match in front of their home crowd.

TOUGH ON DENILSON

This season has been a tough one for Denilson and Sao Paulo as they had to fight and struggle just to keep a place in the middle section of the Brazilian league in the Brasileirao. Even though the season was mostly a downhill ride for the Brazilian club and player, Denilson is hopeful that 2014 will see a lot of changes and turns things around.

‘’Even on vacations we end up thinking about how it will be next year. And I’m sure that we will do differently to fight for titles again. We suffered a bit in 2013, but we will turn it up. Told the official website of São Paulo’’.

Denilson stated that he will spent most if not all of his vacations with the family as the Brazilian player got married some weeks ago and according to him, the remaining days will be relaxing with his family in Paraiba.

‘’I have to go the northeast to rest a bit, because I’m sure next year will be different. This is good time to enjoy time with the family and relax. I’ll stay a few days in Ceará, and then I’ll visit my family in Paraíba. I have family there’’. The midfielder said

The 25 years old midfielder appeared in 46 matches for his team in this past season but failed to find the net a single time which is sparking a rumor of Denilson being possibly transferred out of the club in the upcoming transfer window.

Nothing still is confirmed regarding Denilson and him making a move back to Europe as the initialy speculation was suggesting him to make a return to Europe where he once played with Arsenal in 2006 but with Jack Wilshere rising up to the stage, the playing time of Denilson was limited until he made a move to Sao Paulo.

BELOW EXPECTATIONS

Former Arsenal midfielder Denilson has performed below expectations at his current club Santos, who are one of the biggest in Brazil.

The club also have not been up to their usual standards largely because of the loss of Neymar, who was sold to Barcelona for £ 50 million.

However, Denilson has become the target for criticism from the fans. He also underwent a knee surgery during the campaign, which did not help his case. In the end, Santos finished middle of the table, which is a far cry from the days that they won the title.

Denilson has accepted that he has not been at his best this season. His poor performances this campaign have also started transfer rumours linking him with a move to different clubs. He has a contract with the Brazilian outfit for four more years, but speaking after the end of the championship, he says that he may leave the club at the end of this year. Denilson underwent the surgery back in July, which caused him to take a break from football.

He told the football blog “There is a chance (to get out), but I have a contract with São Paulo until 2017. I do not know what the Sao Paulo or make plans with some players. My focus is in Sao Paulo, of course, but I try to work and always leave very sad, different from last year we left happy. Hopefully 2014 will be better. About my future I do not know, my season was not good.’m Not placing blame on knee surgery I did,” said the midfielder, who was once a regular at Arsenal.

Denilson has said that he is right now focusing only on Santos and does not reveal about the interest from other clubs. Since it is a long-term contract, the club may decide against selling him.

SCOLARI WANTS COSTA

The manager of the Brazilian national football team, Luiz Felipe Scolari, has said that he will include the Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa into his squad for the upcoming couple of friendly matches against Chile and Honduras respectively.

Costa is a Brazilian-born footballer, but, since the last 6 years, he has been in Spain and a few days ago, he had said in one of his interviews that he is looking to represent Spain in international football.

After that, the Royal Spanish Football Federation requested to FIFA to allow Costa to make that move. FIFA is yet to approve it.

But, Scolari has made it quite clear that Costa is in his plans for the upcoming World Cup and he is going to pick him for the next two friendly fixtures of his team.
According to Scolari, Costa is a Brazilian player. So, Brazil has every right to pick him and Spain should understand that.

Talking to the reporters yesterday about the Costa issue, Scolari said, “I am looking to include him into the squad for our upcoming couple of games. We haven’t analyzed him that well so far and we want to do that now. He is a guy who can play a vital role for us in the World Cup.”

“Diego is a guy who belongs to Brazil. Yes, he has been in Spain since the last few years and has been putting up good performances over there, but, he is from Brazil and Spain should understand that fact.”

Costa has played a couple of matches for Brazil so far. Both of them were friendly matches and were played in March this year.

The 25 years old Atletico Madrid player fulfils the eligibility criteria to play for Spain and all he needs is the approval of FIFA.

Fred vows to improve to cement spot in Brazil side

Brazil’s FIFA Confederations Cup hero Fred has used the choicest of Brazilian phrases to describe his desire to represent the Canaries at the FIFA World Cup next summer on home soil, stating that he would kill a lion everyday to ensure he gets his chance to represent his nation at the biggest event in the country’s calendar.

The 29 year old striker enjoyed a brilliant 2012/13 campaign, both for his club Fluminense and his country Brazil. The striker, who in recent months, has been linked with a host of European clubs including Manchester City, scored 20 goals last season for Fluminense as the club secured their fourth top flight title and also scored five goals for the national team in the recently concluded FUFA Confederations Cup as they wrapped up their third consecutive triumph in the tournament.

Speaking to a media outlet, Fred stated that the closer the tournament comes, the more anxious he becomes. He mentioned that he is very happy to be a part of the FIFA Confederations Cup winning side but added that he knows he has to kill a lion everyday and improve even more if he is to be a part of the Brazil squad for next summer’s spectacle.

He mentioned that it was an amazing season for him last year – leading Fluminense to the Brazilian Serie A title and the country to glory in the FIFA Confederations Cup was great. He thanked the coach and technical director of the Brazilian team for keeping faith in his abilities and trusting him but he knows he still has a lot to do to convince them to give him a chance to play for Brazil at the one tournament that matters most to any fan in the country and any footballer as well and that is the World Cup.

DENILSON SIGNS

Denilson Pereira Neves has signed for his former club Sao Paulo. The manager of Sao Paulo, Ney Franco, confirmed his signing yesterday.

Denilson has signed a 4-year deal with the Brazilian club.

Sao Paulo is the club where Denilson had begun his career. He had joined Sao Paulo as 10 years old boy in 1998. He played for the junior team for a few years before making his first team debut in 2005.

Denilson remained a part of Sao Paulo first team for just one season, but, in that one season, he won a couple of trophies i.e. FIFA Club World Cup and Copa Libertadores.
In July 2006, Denilson was sold to Arsenal. The Gunners paid a transfer fee of 3.4 million Pounds for buying him.

It was a surprise signing for many people as Denilson had not that much experience of club football at that time.

Denilson didn’t get that many playing opportunities in his first season for Arsenal, but, in the next couple of seasons, he put up some solid performances and became a regular member of the starting XI.

However, he couldn’t carry on that form in the 2010-11 season and lost his place to Jack Wilshere in the starting XI.

At the start of the 2011-12 season, Denilson was placed on loan to Sao Paulo. He didn’t come back to Arsenal in the next season and continued to be on loan to his boyhood club.

In some of his interviews in the last season, Denilson had indicated that he would like to make a permanent move to Sao Paulo. So, this signing would not have surprised too many people.

Confirming Denilson’s signing, Ney Franco said, “Denilson has been quite good for us in the last couple of seasons. It’s wonderful to have him in the side on a permanent basis now. Hopefully, he will continue to be consistent in future as well.”

FOCUS ON THE NEXT GAME

The Fluminense manager Abel Braga has revealed that his team of focusing only on the upcoming match with the Chilean side Huachipato in the Copa Libertadores.

Fluminense are currently top of the table with an advantage of six points, but they have played one game more than the other teams in the group. A win against Huachipato will be enough for Fluminense, as it would help them secure qualification for the next round. However, the manager Braga has said that he is not thinking about qualification, but about the fact that a defeat would have bad consequences on the ability to qualify easily.

Hence, he has said that his players should concentrate extremely well if they are to progress without any complications. The excellent unbeaten run of the team recently came to an end following the 3-0 defeat against Gremio in the same competition. As a result, the team has managed just one win in the last three matches. Hence, the Huachipato have been speaking extremely confident about the team Fluminense, who will be on the road for this match. The club also have a very difficult away match against Vasco da Gama during the weekend, but the manager has promised that his entire attention will be on the Copa Libertadores match.

“Now let’s think of the Libertadores, and it will be a tough game. They won against Grêmio. And let’s try to break this thing that no team has won the group playing at home. If we do not win Wednesday, it could greatly complicate the group, and we can’t come here thinking we’re going to win, it will not be easy. We know the difficulties we had there to win the match and it will not be different here,” said the Fluminense manager Abel Braga ahead of the encounter.

DENILSON JOINS 100 CLUB

The Arsenal midfielder Denilson will be making an historic appearance for his current team São Paulo, as he prepares to make his 100th appearance for the team. The Brazilian midfielder is currently on loan at the Brazilian club till the end of the season.

This is his second season at the club on a loan deal, while he came through the ranks at the club before moving to Europe many years ago. He has recently stated that he would like to make the move permanent if possible. The 24-year-old midfielder joined Arsenal back in 2006, but has spent the last two seasons away from the club.

He has been disillusioned by the lack of first-team opportunities at the Premier league club, but he has been one of the important players for São Paulo this season. He has stated that his main ambition this season will be to win the championship with São Paulo. If he does so, then it would be his first trophy with the club. Back in 2005, he was not utilised as a substitute in the 1-0 win over Liverpool in the Club World Cup final in 2005. Denilson has stated that because there are only two games remaining to go to the final, the players need to be extremely focused on the task at hand.

“I always said that my desire was to be a champion. We are closer than ever. We have two games to the final and this could be the first time. We are ready. We watched their last two games. They are a team that play’s deep and counter-attacks. Let’s be respectful and try to get out on the break,” said Denilson. The first leg match against Universidad Católica will be the 100th appearance by Denilson for the Brazilian club São Paulo.
